What a year it was for Atherton. They pulled off an upset to beat their rivals 12 zip. Grover didn’t know what hit’em. To throw salt in the wounds Atherton smacked 2 grand slams against Grovers pitching. Looking back you can see this win was inevitable for Atherton with the help of their very own future Major Leaguer Frank White.

Bannockburn capped off one of the greatest runs in high school history by posting the state's best record ever in becoming only the ninth team to complete a perfect season in state history. Their dream season was iced with an 11-2 win over Kenilworth in the Class 4A state championship game with future Major Leaguer Tristan Gregory earning the win from the mound.

The competition was tough but the monsoon rains made it tougher. Motocross Racers traveled from as far away as the Mississippi to compete in this event and sludge through mud up to 2 feet thick. Some of them wish they had stayed home but once again "Heavy-D" Hamilton and "YT" Johnson persevered to take home the trophies and the pride of winning.

Sophomore pitching sensation Johnny Kierce and the Wolverines completed a dream season with a 6-0 victory over Hunting Valley(31-6) in the Class 5A state championship game for their second state title in three years. Kierce, who finished the season with the best pitching record in school history at 14-0, pitched five innings of shutout relief and won his fourth playoff game.

Woodside completed its regular 1971 season by winning all of their dual meets for the 20th year in a row. They defeated Armwood 68-12 in the Middesex County Six-Way Duals to finish this season 20-0.
